Description

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey stands as a monumental tribute to the unblended, unique personality of a individual wood cask. Crafted by the historic Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, this highly coveted, allocated expression honors Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr.—the visionary founding father of the modern bourbon industry who championed the historic Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897.

While the standard Small Batch release blends multiple casks to achieve a uniform flavor profile, the Single Barrel program celebrates the beautiful variations coaxed out by nature. The distillery’s master tasting team meticulously samples barrels aging inside Warehouse C, a historic brick-and-limestone aging rickhouse constructed by Colonel Taylor himself in 1881. Only casks that display an extraordinary, standalone depth of character are selected for this distinction.

Utilizing the distillery’s highly celebrated Mash Bill #1 (the same legendary low-rye grain recipe found in Eagle Rare and George T. Stagg), this bourbon complies strictly with Bottled-in-Bond regulations. It represents the product of a single distillation season, aged for a minimum of four years, and bottled at exactly 50% ABV (100 Proof). Non-chill filtered and stunningly housed in its vintage-style yellow label bottle, it provides high visual gravity and premium conversion power for luxury e-commerce storefronts.

Tasting Notes:

  • Aroma: Rich, highly concentrated, and elegant. Opens with deep waves of dark molasses, buttered toffee, and dense vanilla bean, beautifully supported by dried figs, old leather, and sweet barrel char.

  • Palate: Full-bodied, oily, and layered. An upfront burst of sweet caramel corn and creamy butterscotch effortlessly transitions into complex mid-palate notes of dark stone fruits, ripe plums, cracked black pepper, and rich, seasoned oak wood vanillins.

  • Finish: Exceptionally long, warm, and highly complex. Leaves a sophisticated, velvety signature trail of sweet tobacco leaf, baking spices, cinnamon, and a lingering touch of dry rye heat.

Serving Suggestion:

An unblended private single barrel of this pedigree is best appreciated in its pure, neat form. Pour it into a crystal tulip-shaped tasting glass or a heavy tumbler and allow the liquid to breathe for ten minutes. Aeration relaxes the 100-proof delivery, spreading out the rich barrel sugars and releasing beautiful hidden notes of citrus oils and sweet pastry crust.
