To build this complex single malt, Macallan takes a completely customized approach to wood. Raw American white oak is shipped from the United States to Spain, where it is coopered into casks alongside traditional European oak. Both sets of barrels are then seasoned with fine Oloroso sherry in the cellars of Jerez de la Frontera before being filled with Macallan’s signature, oily new-make spirit back in Scotland.

Over 12 years of slow maturation, the dual wood profiles work in perfect tandem. The sherry-seasoned American oak tames the spirit’s sharp edges, injecting a prominent sweetness filled with creamy vanilla fudge, rich butterscotch, and fresh orchard fruits. Simultaneously, the European oak imparts structural complexity, delivering traditional layers of dried fruits and a comforting backbeat of baking spice.
